Events

The diamond Consortium conducts workshops and seminars to encourage the open exchange of information and the sharing of resources of researchers in the primary mental health care setting. To further facilitate this open exchange of information, the Consortium welcomes enquiries from national and international primary mental health care researchers who are wishing to contribute to the vision of the Consortium.

diamond Consortium Research Higher Degree Student Meeting

On 8 December 2006, students with a research interest in primary mental health care met together from 10am-1pm. The meeting was held at the School of Physiotherapy, Level 2, Rooms 223 & 228, 200 Berkeley St, Carlton. On the day, students discussed the progress of their mental health research, Ms Cathy Mihalopoulos, a health economist (Program Evaluation Unit, School of Population Health, University of Melbourne) discussed mental health economics and Professor Jane Gunn, Chair of the Consortium discussed research capacity building.

diamond Study Launch

Tuesday 15th February 2005

diamond, the first ever large study of the way depression is actually managed in Australian general practice was officially launched by Prof Christopher Dowrick, the diamond Consortium's first visiting academic for 2005. The launch followed a seminar given by Prof Dowrick entitled 'Beyond Depression' (a copy of this presentation is available by clicking on 'Seminars'). Prof Jane Gunn began proceedings by welcoming everyone to the long awaited launch amidst blue and white balloons! This was followed by a presentation by Dr Gail Gilchrist, (Research Fellow in Primary Care) who briefly presented the methods and the diamond pilot study results. Afterwards A/Prof Kelsey Hegarty chaired an informal panel discussion about the use of antidepressants to treat depression. Panelists included Dr Grant Blashki, Prof Chris Dowrick, Prof Judith Lumley, Ms Ingrid Ozols and Dr Jane Fisher.
